It's National Smile Day...Beam Me Up!

Thanks to Martha Stewart, I now know and can share that today is National Smile Day. I plan to give lots away. Here's one for you...

and here are some other folks sharing theirs...

and of course, grins galore from my smiling pups on The Granola Bar page.

In case you don't wake up grinning, here are some foods to eat during the day so that by nightfall, you'll be beaming: avocadoes, sweet potatoes, bananas, chickpeas, green beans, leafy greens, asparagus, lentils, oatmeal, oranges, almonds, sunflower seeds, wild rice, tofu, berries, brussel sprouts, broccoli and dark chocolate. They supply B vitamins, folate, magnesium, vitamin C and omega 3 fatty acids...all the food power needed to help you chill out, mellow existing stress, relax tense muscles and frown-y lines and make lots of cheerful dopamine.

Given my recent happy times with Gorgonzola ("Wellness Addiction", Sept. 24th), this recipe caught my eye. Even the green beans are smiling...

Green Beans with Gorgonzola

1 pounds green beans, stem ends trimmed
1 tablespoons nut oil, such as hazelnut, almond, or walnut
1/2 tablespoon sherry vinegar
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 ounces Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled (about 1/2 cup)
1/4 cup roasted blanched hazelnuts, coarsely chopped

Steam green beans until crisp-tender, 4 to 8 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and toss with oil and vinegar; season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with Gorgonzola and nuts. Serves 4.

If you want to up the wattage of your smile with truly non-toxic lip glosses and lip colors, I can help with that brightness, too. Read yesterday's post. Smile with health and have a Happy Day!
