I am experiencing more than several of those zillion...patience, hope, excitement, and most of all, an interesting calmness.
There was an absolutely gorgeous crescent moon hanging over the Williamsburg Bridge the other night...such a luminous sliver in a crisp, clear, cold winter's night sky. Just a beautiful little start of a moon...hanging around, calm and cool as could be, right in the middle of one of the busiest bridges in one of the busiest cities ever and in a sky that was just packed with stars and planets.
That beautiful little moon gave me this thought for the New Year...be resolute, be bold, be ready to grow wherever you are, no matter what, even if it is in the middle of what seems to be chaos. Calmly let your light shine. Put it out there. Shine it on bridges, on connections, and light up the way to new ones. Be luminous. You are have a special place in the universe, a bright place and are in the right place, at the right time.
And while waiting and waiting, a little munching is in order, wouldn't you agree?
Crescent Moon Bridge Mix (adapted from Mark Bittman)
butter or neutral oil (like grapeseed)
2 cups sugar
2 cups toasted or roasted nuts
pinch sea salt
Grease large baking pan with butter. Put sugar and 1/3 cup sugar in a small deep pan over low heat. Cook, without stirring, until sugar dissolves and starts to color. Keep cooking until the sugar turns caramel colored...golden but not dark brown. This will take between 5 and 10 minutes. Put nuts in a big heatproof bowl.
Drizzle the hot sugar syrup (BE CARFEUL!) over the nuts, sprinkle with salt and toss to coat. Work quickly because it will harden quickly! While warm, spread and let cool. Once cool, drizzle melted chocolate (white would be nice and moon-like, especially if you are using cashews.) Break into pieces to eat!
